In-School Suspension Target Population

 
         

 

 
Description of In-School Suspension

In-School Suspension is designed primarily as an alternative to Out-of School Suspension for students who have violated major school policies concerning student behavior and conduct.

Characteristics of Target Population

Students who are referred to In-School Suspension will probably display some or all of the following characteristics:


• Small self-image
• Low self-esteem
• Lack of interest in school work
• Lack of academic success
• Poor social skills
• Disrespect for authority
• Unstable and troubled home environment, and
• Poor school attendance

Goals of the In-School Suspension Program
• To serve as a consequence for students who chronically display severe undesirable behavior.
• To serve as a deterrent to severe undesirable student behavior.
• To instil values that will enable students to better cope in the classroom, school, and home environment.
• To provide an opportunity for students to keep up with current class assignments.
